Branding
Set the logo, icon, heading font, and four brand colours your network shows, and point a branded portal address and email sending domain at it.
This is the settings page where a Provider Network Admin sets the network's visual identity — icon, logo, heading font, four brand colours — and points a branded portal address and a branded email sending address at the network.
Questions people ask about this page
Where is the Save button?
There isn't one on the Branding card. Every control on that card autosaves the moment you change it. Uploads save on change and toast (Network icon updated, Network logo updated, Logo size updated). The heading font and the four colour fields save silently, with no toast at all — the colours one second after you stop typing. The Domain management card below is different — it has real buttons (Save domain, Save sender address, Check DNS).
Where do I change the network's name?
Not here. The network name and business details live on Network overview at /settings/overview. Branding only handles images, font, colours, and domains.
Is there a URL slug or a branded sign-in link on this page?
No. A URL slug field exists on the Client tenant's Branding tab, but the provider network Branding tab has no slug field and no ?brand= sign-in link. Your branded address option is Custom Domain — a real subdomain you own, such as portal.yourclinic.com.
Who actually sees this branding?
Your own signed-in users and your provider-facing pages and emails. Patients belonging to a linked client see that client's branding, not yours — the client sets its own logo and colours on its own Branding tab. Set expectations with clients accordingly.
Why do Secondary Color and Background Color say "Auto-generated"?
Because they are derived from Primary Color until you type a hex value of your own. Leave them empty and they keep tracking the primary. Type a value and that value wins from then on.
Can I upload any image, or does the shape matter?
Shape matters. Icon is cropped square — it becomes the browser favicon and compact brand slots. Logo is cropped to a wide 3:1 frame for provider-facing pages and email headers. Both open a crop dialog with a Zoom slider before they save.
How long does a custom domain take to go live?
Once your DNS records are detected, verification and activation run automatically — the page says usually within 20 minutes. The slow part is your own DNS provider publishing the records, which is outside GEN Health. Press Check DNS to force a look.
Do I need a custom domain at all?
No. Everything works on the GEN Health address, and patient email keeps sending from gen-health.app. Both panels are optional polish, and each is independent — you can do the email domain without the portal domain, or the other way round.
Where to find it
Left menu → Settings → the Branding card. Direct link: /settings/branding. There is also a jump link that scrolls straight to the first card: /settings/branding#network-branding. Visible to: Provider Network Admin only. Providers and Provider Delegates have no Settings item at all.
What is on this page
Two cards, in this order.
| Card | What it does |
|---|---|
| Branding Customize your network logo, colors, and fonts. | Icon uploader, Logo uploader, Header Font, and the Brand Colors grid. Everything autosaves. |
| Domain management Point a branded portal subdomain to this network login and send patient email from your own domain. | Two side-by-side panels: Custom Domain on the left, Email Domain on the right. Each has a three-step flow and its own status badge. |
How to set the logo and icon
Open the page
In the left menu click Settings, then click the Branding card. The heading reads Branding with the line Set the network identity, logos, colors, and branded presentation.
Upload the icon
In the first tile, labelled Icon, click Change Icon — or Click or drag to upload icon if nothing is set yet. You can also drag a file onto the tile; it reads Drag and drop to upload, then Drop to upload while you drag.
Crop it square
The Crop Network Icon dialog opens — Position the image inside a square frame for favicon and other compact brand slots. Drag the image, use the Zoom slider, then click Save Crop. Toast: Network icon updated.
Upload the logo
In the wide tile labelled Logo, click Change Logo. The Crop Network Logo dialog opens — Position the image inside a wide 3:1 frame for provider branding and email headers. Click Save Crop.
Size the logo
Click the size button under the logo. It is labelled with the size you are on right now — Size: Small, Size: Medium or Size: Large, starting at Size: Medium on a new network. Each click cycles to the next size. Toast: Logo size updated.
Fix a logo that disappears on dark backgrounds
Click Add light background. The button then reads Remove light background. Use it when a white or transparent logo vanishes against your side menu colour.
Remove an asset
Click Delete on the tile. The tile returns to its empty state and the network falls back to the default mark.
How to set the font and colours
Pick a heading font
Click the Header Font select. It opens on Default (GT Super Display) and lists two groups, — Serif — and — Sans-Serif —. Each row previews with the line The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Choosing one saves at once, and it saves silently — there is no toast for the font. Reload the page if you want to confirm it stuck. This changes headings across the platform for your network, not body text.
Set the primary colour
Under Brand Colors, click the swatch beside Primary Color to use the colour picker, or type a hex value into the field (placeholder #2563eb). This is the colour that drives buttons, highlights, and patient-facing surfaces.
Leave the derived colours alone unless you need them
Secondary Color and Background Color both read Auto-generated until you type a value. Only override them if the generated shade is wrong for your brand.
Set the side menu header
Side menu header controls the block of colour behind the logo at the top of the left menu. Set it separately from the primary colour when a strong primary makes the menu unreadable.
Confirm it saved
Colour edits save about a second after you stop typing and they save silently — no toast. Reload the page to confirm the value stuck. A half-typed hex value is discarded rather than saved.
How to point a branded portal address at your network
Enter the subdomain
In the Custom Domain panel, step 1 Choose your portal address, type a subdomain you own into the field (placeholder portal.yourclinic.com). Helper text: Use a subdomain you own, such as portal.yourclinic.com. Root domains are not supported.
Save it
Click Save domain. Toast: Custom domain saved. The panel now shows Patients sign in at https://<hostname> and the record table fills in.
Copy the records into your DNS provider
Step 2 Add these records at your domain provider shows a table with Host and Value columns. There is a CNAME row (Routes your portal to GEN Health.) and a TXT row (Proves you own this domain.). Once a certificate is issued a third row appears (Issues and auto-renews your SSL certificate. Add once and keep permanently.). Paste each Host exactly as shown — your DNS provider appends your zone automatically.
Check the records
Click Check DNS. Toast: DNS check complete. Each row shows a pill: Record detected, Certificate issued, or Waiting for this record.
Let it finish
Step 3 We verify and activate — automatic. Once records are detected, verification and activation run on their own, usually within 20 minutes. If the badge stalls at DNS verified, click Activate.
Undo it
Remove domain detaches the hostname. Toast: Custom domain removed. Sign-in falls back to the GEN Health address.
How to send patient email from your own domain
Choose the sender address
In the Email Domain panel, step 1 Choose your sender address, fill From mailbox (default notifications) and Email domain (placeholder yourclinic.com). The preview line reads Patients will see emails from <address>.
Save it
Click Save sender address. The domain becomes read-only afterwards; only the mailbox part can be edited, with Save changes.
Add the two records
Step 2 shows a TXT row (Lets inboxes trust that emails really come from you.) and a CNAME row (Handles bounces so delivery stays healthy.). Before you save, both cells read (generated when you save).
Check and wait
Click Check DNS. Step 3 We verify — then your emails switch over: once both records verify, patient email switches to your address automatically. Until then it keeps sending from gen-health.app.
Every setting on this page
| Setting | What it controls | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Icon | Browser favicon and square brand placements. Square crop. | Empty — GEN Health default mark |
| Logo | Provider-facing pages and email headers. Wide 3:1 crop. | Empty |
| Size: Small / Size: Medium / Size: Large (one button, cycles) | How large the logo renders in the app shell. Cycles on click. | Medium |
| Add light background / Remove light background | Puts a light plate behind the logo so a white mark stays visible. | Off |
| Header Font | The typeface for all headings across the platform for this network. | Default (GT Super Display) |
| Primary Color | Buttons, highlights, patient-facing surfaces, and the accent used throughout. | #2563eb |
| Secondary Color | Supporting accent. Derived from the primary until you set it. | Auto-generated |
| Background Color | Page background tint. Derived from the primary until you set it. | Auto-generated |
| Side menu header | The colour block behind the logo at the top of the left menu. | Derived |
| Custom Domain | A subdomain you own that serves the network sign-in page. Subdomains only. | Not set |
| Email Domain (From mailbox + Email domain) | The address patient email is sent from. | Not set — sends from gen-health.app, mailbox default notifications |
There is no URL slug, no network name, no timezone, no support email, and no portal theme control on this page. Those either live on Network overview or do not exist for a provider network.
Statuses you will see here
Only the two domain panels show statuses.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting for DNS | Your records are not visible to GEN Health yet. | Add the CNAME and TXT (and the certificate CNAME once it appears) at your DNS provider, then click Check DNS. |
| DNS verified | The records were found. | Nothing, normally — activation is automatic. Click Activate if it sits here. |
| Activating | The certificate and routing are being provisioned. Custom Domain only. | Wait. This state does not exist for the email domain. |
| Active | Live. Sign-in links and emails use it automatically. | Nothing. |
| Needs attention | Provisioning failed. The failure reason renders in a red box under the badge. | Fix what the message names, then press Activate again. |
| no badge | Nothing saved yet. | Enter a subdomain and click Save domain, or a sender address and Save sender address. |
Per-record pills in the record table: Record detected, Certificate issued, Waiting for this record.
What can go wrong
| What you see | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| You changed a colour and nothing confirmed it | Colour edits save silently after a short debounce — there is no toast for them. | Reload the page. If the value is gone, the hex was incomplete when you navigated away; re-enter the full six-digit value. |
| Toast: Unable to update <field>. Please try again. | The save call failed. The field name in the toast tells you which control. | Retry. If it repeats, check your connection and reload — the page reverts to the stored value. |
| The page reads No provider network associated with your account | Your user record has no network on it. | Ask another Provider Network Admin or GEN Health support to repair the account link. Nothing on this page will work until then. |
| Toast: Unable to load branding data. Please try again. | The network document could not be read. | Reload. If it persists, raise a ticket from Support. |
| Toast: Enter a subdomain | You clicked Save domain with an empty field, or typed a root domain. | Use a subdomain such as portal.yourclinic.com. Root domains are not supported. |
| Custom domain stuck on Waiting for DNS | The records are not published, or the Host was pasted with your zone appended twice. | Paste the Host exactly as shown — most DNS providers add .yourdomain.com for you. Then Check DNS. |
Emails still come from gen-health.app | The email domain has not reached Active. | Both the TXT and the CNAME must verify. Nothing switches over on a partial verification. |
| Your logo is invisible in the left menu | A white or transparent logo on a dark Side menu header colour. | Click Add light background, or lighten Side menu header. |
| A linked client's patients do not see your branding | Expected. Patient-facing branding comes from the client tenant, not the network. | Nothing to fix here. Ask the client to set its own branding. |
