Branding, URL, and custom domain
Logo, colours, fonts, the four theme editors, your branded sign-in link, and a custom portal domain.
Everything a patient sees before they trust you: your logo, your colours, your themes, and the web address they sign in at.
Questions people ask about this page
Where is the Save button?
There is not one. Change a text field and a small tick and cross appear next to that field's label — tick saves, cross discards. Most saves raise the toast Branding updated. Colours are different again: they save on their own a moment after you stop typing, with no tick and deliberately no toast.
No tick appeared when I typed. Why?
The tick only exists while the field differs from what is already saved. If it does not appear, the field has not actually registered your change — click into it, edit a character, and watch for the tick before you move on. Do not navigate away expecting an autosave on text fields.
Do I need a custom domain?
No. Without one, patients sign in on the shared GEN Health address and your branding still applies. A custom domain is worth it when you want the browser bar to say your name too.
Can I use my root domain, like yourclinic.com?
No. The helper is explicit: Use a subdomain you own, such as portal.yourclinic.com. Root domains are not supported.
How long does DNS take?
The page's own promise is usually within 20 minutes once your records are visible. How fast they become visible is up to your DNS provider, and that can be hours. Use Check DNS rather than waiting on a guess.
Why can patients barely see the sign-in button?
Primary Color paints buttons with white text on top. A pale primary makes buttons unreadable. Pick something dark enough that white text sits comfortably on it, and check the theme previews on this page before you commit.
What is the URL slug for?
It builds a branded sign-in link of the form /login?brand=your-slug, shown live under the field. It is not a domain and it does not change your portal address.
Is multi-factor sign-in on this page?
No. Security is its own tab: Settings — Security.
Before you start
- A square icon file and a wide logo file, roughly 3:1.
- Your brand's hex colour codes.
- For a custom domain: access to your DNS provider, and a subdomain you are willing to point at GEN Health.
Who does what: you do all of it, except the DNS records, which someone with access to your domain must add. Time: fifteen minutes for brand and themes; the domain then waits on DNS.
Where to find it

How to set your brand up
Open the page
Left menu → Settings → Branding.
Upload the icon and logo
In Business brand, click Change Icon for the square crop and Change Logo for the wide one. Delete removes either. Click Size: Medium to cycle the logo size, and use Remove light background if your file ships with a white plate behind it.
Fill in the text fields
Brand name, Website, Support email, Phone number. After each edit, click the small tick that appears next to that field's label. A toast reads Branding updated. The cross next to the tick throws the change away.
Pick a font and a theme mode
The Header font dropdown starts at Default (GT Super Display) and groups options into serif and sans-serif. Portal theme is Light or Dark.
Set your colours
Type a hex value into Primary Color, or use the swatch to pick one. It saves by itself a moment later — no tick, no toast. Leave Secondary Color and Background Color on Auto-generated unless you have specific brand values.
Check the contrast
Look at any button on screen. If white text on your primary colour is hard to read, choose a darker primary now rather than after patients complain.
Turn on the video background, if you run live visits
Tick Enable provider video logo background and use See example to preview. The status line moves from Preparing branded video background... to Branded video background is ready.
How to edit the four themes
Pick a layout
On the Storefront theme card, click Focused, Sidecar, or Editorial. The choice takes effect on your checkout and success screens.
Open the editor
Click Click to edit on the layout. A dialog opens titled Checkout theme, described as Edit copy and brand treatments for the selected layout.
Fill it in
Copy fields: Headline, Subhead, Trust note (the reassurance line beside the payment fields), and Display name. Treatment fields: Page background color, CTA color, Logo URL or Logo upload, and a Logo setting of Standard, Contained, or Hidden.
Check the preview
The EXACT PREVIEW pane on the right is a replica of the real checkout shell with sample content. Toggle Desktop and Mobile.
Save
Click Save changes.
Repeat for the other three
Login theme (Sidecar or Focused), Email theme (Classic, Banner, or Letterhead), and Form theme. The email editor adds a Test email block — Send this draft theme to any recipient. — so you can send yourself the layout before patients get it.
Clicking a layout tile selects it immediately; you do not have to open the editor for the choice to stick. Only the copy and colours inside the editor need Save changes.
How to add a custom portal domain
Scroll to Domain management
The card sits at the bottom of the page, titled Domain management.
Step 1 — Choose your portal address
Type a subdomain you own into the field, placeholder portal.yourclinic.com. Click Save domain.
Step 2 — Add these records at your domain provider
The page shows a HOST and VALUE for a CNAME, a TXT, and a certificate record. Click any value to copy it, and heed the note: Paste each Host exactly as shown — your provider adds ".yourclinic.com" automatically. Then click Check DNS; each row reports Record detected, Certificate issued, or Waiting for this record.
Step 3 — We verify and activate
This part is automatic: Once your records are detected, verification and activation run automatically — usually within 20 minutes. When the badge reaches DNS verified an Activate button appears if it has not fired on its own.
Confirm
The badge reads Active and the helper says Your branded portal address is live. Sign-in emails and links use it automatically.
To remove it
Click Remove domain.
How to send email from your own domain
Step 1 — Choose your sender address
Under Email Domain, set From mailbox (it starts as notifications) and Email domain (placeholder yourclinic.com). The preview reads Patients will see emails from notifications@yourclinic.com. Click Save sender address.
Step 2 — Add the records
Two records appear: a TXT for the DKIM signature key and a CNAME for Return-path routing. Add both, then Check DNS. A toast confirms DNS check complete.
Step 3 — We verify
Once both records verify, patient emails automatically switch to your address. Nothing else to do. Until then, email keeps sending from gen-health.app.
How to set your branded sign-in link
Find the URL slug field
Bottom of Domain management.
Type a slug and save it
Lowercase letters, numbers, and dashes only — for example lumen-wellness. Click the tick beside the label.
Copy the link
The line below updates live: Branded sign-in link: https://…/login?brand=your-slug. That is the URL to give patients when you have no custom domain.
Statuses you will see here
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting for DNS | Your records are not visible yet. This is the state a new domain starts in. | Add the CNAME and TXT records, then Check DNS. |
| DNS verified | The records were found. | Click Activate if it has not already run. |
| Activating | The certificate and routing are being provisioned. Custom Domain only. | Wait. |
| Active | Live. | Nothing. |
| Needs attention | Provisioning failed. The reason is printed in a red box underneath. | Fix what it names, then Activate again. |
| Waiting for this record (per-row) | That one DNS record is not visible yet. | Re-check the host and value at your provider. |
| Record detected (per-row) | That row is correct. | Nothing. |
| Certificate issued (per-row) | SSL is issued and will auto-renew. | Leave the record in place permanently. |
The email domain uses the same words minus Activating.
What can go wrong
| What you see | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No tick appears when you edit a field | The tick only renders while the value differs from what is saved. | Click into the field, change a character, and confirm the tick appears before leaving the page. Reload to check the value stuck. |
| Colour change saved but no toast | Colours autosave on a delay and suppress the toast on purpose. | Nothing. Reload if you want proof. |
| Patients cannot read your buttons | A pale Primary Color under white text. | Darken the primary. |
| The logo looks wrong in emails | A tall or square logo in a slot built for a wide 3:1 crop, or a white plate behind it. | Re-crop, and try Remove light background. |
| Needs attention on the domain | A record is missing or the host was pasted with the domain appended twice. | Paste the host exactly as shown — your provider adds the domain part itself. |
You tried to add yourclinic.com | Root domains are not supported. | Use a subdomain such as portal.yourclinic.com. |
| The video background never becomes ready | No logo uploaded, or it is still generating. | Upload a logo first; the status line tells you which state you are in. |
| You are looking for MFA or inactivity logout here | Security moved to its own tab. Inactivity logout is not offered to clients at all. | See Settings — Security, which has exactly one control. |
| Your slug link opens the plain GEN Health sign-in | The slug is saved but you dropped the ?brand= part of the URL. | Copy the whole Branded sign-in link line. |
